50 Million Pound Challenge

As I mentioned in the last blog, Hut and I helped at a health fair yesterday. It was sponsered by State Farm Insurance. State Farm is also a sponser of the 50 Million Pound Challenge. I signed up for this a year ago without fully understanding the whole thing. When I went back today to update everything I had gained 5 pounds. That's not good. But at the health fair yesterday I got two diet books written by Ian K. Smith. He is the doctor that did VH1's Celebrity Fit Club. I read his 1st book last night. The whole thing. This is a diet I believe I can do. Today my goal is to read the second book. His books are set up so if you fall back into bad habits, you can pick yourself up, dust yourself off and get on track again. No beating yourself up for being a failure. Because you're not. I am really gung ho to try this. Hopefully I can stay on track this time. I feel really miserable with all this excess weight, so I really need to do something about it. It will also help keep my sugar levels down. Tomorrow is the day I start this new way of eating. That is actually what this diet does, teaches us how to each correctly. And there is no counting calories, measuring(well a little) and you exercise at your discretion. I love that this first book has a section in the back that shows how many calories you burn doing normal everyday things, like laundry or farming, working in your garden, doing the dishes. Most of us don't think about that. I know I'm going on about the book instead of the challenge. Sorry about that. If you go to http://www.50millionpounds.com/ the website will be able to fill you in on alot more information about the challenge. And it's free to join. They have menues and exercise ideas. And those of you who have a State Farm agent near you, please stop by and inquire about the challenge. They will be able to give you some information and a pedometer to get you started. And because right now I'm so hyped up to try this, I want to give someone else a chance to try it. And I'm going to make it easy. Just stop by and leave a comment. That's it. Easy. And here's what you'll get......

First off you'll get not one but 2 pedometers. That way your spouse or friend or neighbor can join you in a leisurely walk and you can count the step along the way.
Next up is Dr. Smith's first Fat Smash Diet book. I read this one last night. I truly believe I can do this.Next up is Dr. Smith's EXTREME Fat Smash Diet book. I haven't read that one yet, but as soon as I'm done here, I'm going to go start it. These books are great in that they have a journal to help you keep track if you want and loads of helpful suggestions to keep you on track. And both books suggest that you do this with a friend or family member as support. I will be doing it solo as all my friends are in the computer and hubby won't do this one with me.Finally (I know this is hard to see, dang camera) is a game piece. This game piece could be worth a $100 Visa gift card compliments of State Farm. And you can go back once a week with the same card to find out if you are a winner. The contest ends on December 31, 2009 at 11:59pm. If nothing else, this card is a great incentive to leave a comment. And I'm hoping that you guys can keep me on track. My start weight is 205 lbs. I cannot weigh in again for 10 days. So wish me luck. I believe if I can make it through the first days 10 days I'll have it made. Now come one.....leave a comment. I will choose a winner on Friday, August 21. I will announce the winner on Saturday, August 22. Let's all be winners.

You know how desperately I want to lose weight but I'm afraid your previoius post about the trip to Outback was more appealing than this one about diet books. LOL

Dont' get so excited about my motivation. It's only day one of my detox. I'll probably be eating chocolate bars by the weekend, lol. But keep your fingers crossed. I really would like to be able to at least fit back into the size 16 clothes I have in my closet.

I think that if you need inspiration you can find some right here with your internet friends. I think if we all just left you an inspiring comment each day that would help. I'm will to do that!
I've gained 12 pounds since I quit smoking... pounds I can ill afford to gain. I'd love to read Ian's book and see if it would be something I could do. I loved watching Celdbrity Fit Club! (except for "Screech"...he was such a jerk)
Remember...if you fall "off tack"...you can always get back on..you don't have to stay off.
Count me in!
